Z E N I T H!

A while back I posted a quick shot of a painting I had just completed for the faculty show at CCAD. I recently got the painting back and while the photo isn't the best, it's a decent representation of the final until I un-frame and scan it. I like to paint me some monsters!
By the way, it's framed by a 1950 Porthole TV frame that I bought about 5 years ago.

Roy O & BB

Lately I've had this thing for drawing old skool rock and blues guys with their guitars. So, until I get it out of my system, here's Roy and BB.

Bronson!

Man if ever there was a guy with a face for radio.... I love all that Bronso-texture though! McInturff and I are starting a friendly portrait challenge (right Steve?) so here's what who we picked first . If anyone else wants to throw in feel free.
But do it now punks.

The Pickers and a Dog

Had some fun drawing up the dudes from American Pickers this weekend -super hard getting decent reference on these 2 though! Somewhat satisfied with the results.... Dog was a blast. The best thing about the dog is he is the most accessorized guy on reality TV. I mean what is all that stuff he wears??? Looks like a mix of army surplus police gear and an old west Indian trading post.Few people can pull the look off- dog being one of them!

Guilty Indulgence

Well I freely admit that I am a fan of American Pickers, I have only watched Pawn Stars off and on. It's during those "on" times I began to appreciate what really great characters each of these Pawn guys are. The old man with his hound dog jowls and half closed eyes, Rick with the cynical laugh and the tat twins Corey and Chumlee. So with a little free time I had this afternoon, I busted out the sketchbook and gave 2 of them a whirl.

Ray Caesar goodness

Some good advice from the 2 parts bizzare and 1 part awesome, Ray Caesar:

any advice for the art school grad?
"Take all the compliments and criticisms and put it in a bag with a screaming cat...go to a river...take the cat out and cuddle it and throw the bag in the river. Start work...work...finish work! If you are afraid to do something artistically that's a good enough reason to try it. Make what you love as that's the best way to know if someone else will love it. Forget what it "means"...it's about how it "feels" Don't do art as a career... do it in your spare time and make sure all your time is spare time...make sure you get enough fiber.

Monster A Go-Go

Done shoveling all the snow so time for some coffee , a movie and some drawing. Today's fare was "Monster a Go-Go". If you've not had the opportunity to see this cinematic pile of 60's turds, then I urge you not to put it on your "must see list". This movie made ed Wood's "Plan 9 from Outer Space" look like The Godfather. What a sci-fi clunker. Words can't describe the wretchedness.... and with such a great title ! Anyways, sketched this little guy while enduring the pain.

Chicken scratch

Whenever my buddy from high school calls me, we seem to end up having rather long winded conversations about work, the Cavs and Browns and when can he get me some free tickets to watch LeBron and company...and it also gives me some sit and draw time. So, that's what today's effort is the result of. And still, no free tickets!

A Tom Lovell New Year to All!

Man, I love the work of Tom Lovell. Not many illustrators make you stop and ask "wow how did he do that"? Tom Lovell is one of those guys. I've had several opportunities to see Lovell's paintings in the flesh and they are mind-blowing great. I can't think of a better way to launch 2010 than to share some work by one of the true greats of illustration!
